Diogo Elias Takes Helm as CEO of Avianca Cargo

MIAMI, Florida — Diogo Elias officially became the CEO of Avianca Cargo on May 1, 2025, following his appointment from Senior Vice President, a role he held since September 2023. In his new position, Elias will guide the company’s strategic growth focus, emphasizing fleet expansion, network diversification, and digital transformation.
Avianca Cargo operates a comprehensive network of over 350 destinations through cargo flights and interline agreements, reaffirming its commitment to operational excellence. Under Elias’s leadership, the airline has been recognized as one of the top six cargo airlines globally, according to the ACNA index. This accomplishment marks Avianca Cargo’s distinction as the only Latin American carrier on the list.
During his tenure as Senior Vice President, Elias played a pivotal role in expanding Avianca Cargo’s network. Notably, the company established 25 direct cargo connections from Miami, a significant milestone in its U.S. operations. He also led initiatives that strengthened the company’s service offerings and customer engagement strategies.
Prior to joining Avianca, Elias accumulated nearly nine years of experience at LATAM Airlines, where he held various leadership roles, enhancing his expertise in commercial operations across multiple Latin American markets including Colombia, Brazil, and Chile. He first joined the Avianca group in June 2023 as Corporate Vice President.
“I’m excited to start this new chapter as CEO of Avianca Cargo,” Elias shared in a LinkedIn post on May 5. “Our focus remains on delivering exceptional service and fostering long-term partnerships.”
As part of its ongoing growth strategy, Avianca recently announced a collaboration with TAAG Angola Airlines to enhance its air cargo capabilities. Elias aims to leverage this partnership to strengthen Avianca Cargo’s position in the market, aligning with their commitment to customer-centric service.
