Director Hints at Early 2024 Release for The Strangers: Chapter 3
LOS ANGELES, CA — Fans of the horror film series The Strangers received exciting news from director Renny Harlin, who shared a potential release window for the next installment. During a recent interview, Harlin confirmed that The Strangers: Chapter 3 is not expected to arrive until early next year. “It won’t be this year,” he stated, referencing the recent premiere of The Strangers: Chapter 2 on September 26.
This means that the gap between the two films will be shorter than in previous years. Harlin revealed more about the upcoming film, hinting at a significantly darker storyline. “It goes into a very, very dark place,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of the trilogy’s production approach. The filmmakers had a unique opportunity to develop the main character through multiple hours of storytelling.
The Strangers series began with the 2008 film by Bryan Bertino, which was a commercial success, grossing over $82 million worldwide on a $9 million budget. Its sequel, The Strangers: Prey at Night, was released a decade later, and although it was less successful, it still performed well. The trilogy continues with The Strangers: Chapter 1, which debuted in 2024.
Chapter 2 has received mixed reviews and struggled to make back its $8.5 million production budget, earning $7.7 million in its opening weekend. Critics have rated it poorly, with a Rotten Tomatoes rating of just 17% from verified critics, while audience feedback is slightly better at 57%.
Actress Madelaine Petsch has expressed pride in her performance, despite the film’s reception. “I think the films are polarizing. That’s what makes film and art so cool,” she remarked. She also teased a particular scene in Chapter 3 that she believes stands out in her career.
As the release of The Strangers: Chapter 3 approaches, anticipation builds among fans eager to see where the story leads. Harlin’s commitment to completing the trilogy within a similar timeframe of production gives hope for a compelling and coherent narrative.
