Disney Officials Urge ‘The View’ Hosts to Reduce Political Rhetoric

New York, NY — Disney and ABC executives are reportedly urging the hosts of ‘The View‘ to tone down their political commentary, particularly critical remarks regarding President Donald Trump. This request comes amid ongoing concerns about the show’s focus on politics since Trump’s election in 2024.
Multiple sources informed the Daily Beast that Disney CEO Bob Iger and ABC News President Almin Karamehmedovic convened a meeting with the show’s executive producer Brian Teta and the panel of co-hosts, including Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, and Ana Navarro. During this meeting, they suggested a shift towards broader topics beyond politics, emphasizing the success of episodes featuring celebrity guests.
While the suggestion was not intended as an order, it reportedly unsettled the hosts. One source relayed that the co-hosts pushed back, emphasizing their audience’s demand for political discourse, especially given significant government actions under the Trump administration.
“This is what our audience wants. Isn’t it gonna look kind of bad if we’re all of a sudden not talking about politics?” the hosts reportedly expressed during the meeting.
In response to Iger’s comments at a recent ABC advertisers’ event, Navarro thanked him for allowing the show to maintain its politically charged content but reiterated that the current environment demands political discussions.
Despite these conversations, ‘The View’ continues to maintain high ratings, having been rated the number-one daytime talk and news program in the first quarter of 2025, with an average of 2.62 million viewers, a 4% increase from the previous year.
Additionally, the hosts have remained active in political discussions, having recently interviewed former President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill Biden. They engaged in a heated segment questioning current administration policies and political figures.
ABC has not publicly commented on the alleged directive to reduce political content. Ongoing tensions between the network and Trump, alongside his threat of legal action against ABC, further complicate the situation.
Overall, the balance between maintaining viewer engagement and navigating the corporate directive presents a challenge for the show’s co-hosts as they grapple with the changing media landscape.
