Doctor Who Star Addresses Character Replacement Rumors
Doctor Who star, Millie Gibson, has spoken out in response to the rumors circulating about her character in the popular sci-fi series.
The 19-year-old actress from Coronation Street plays the role of Ruby Sunday, the companion to Ncuti Gatwa‘s Doctor in the show.
Initial reports suggested that Gibson would be replaced in the upcoming season by Varada Sethu, who was seen filming with Gatwa for the 2025 series.
However, the BBC recently clarified that Gibson will not be replaced, but Sethu will join the cast as an additional companion.
In a joint interview, Gibson addressed the confusion, stating that it was simply a ‘little bit of a misunderstanding’ and confirming her presence in the upcoming season.
Gatwa reassured fans, emphasizing that the nature of the show involves new actors joining and playing different roles alongside the Doctor.
Renowned showrunner Russell T Davies weighed in on the situation, attributing the mix-up to the challenges of filming in public.
Varada Sethu, known for her roles in projects like Jurassic World Dominion and Now You See Me 2, expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to join the Doctor Who family.
Excited about her new role, Sethu described it as an honor and expressed her enthusiasm for working alongside Gatwa and Gibson on this adventure.
Davies commended Sethu’s talent, mentioning their past collaboration on a BBC production and praising her contribution to the TARDIS team in the upcoming season.
Despite Gatwa’s groundbreaking casting receiving widespread acclaim, there were inevitably some critics, to whom Gatwa’s message was clear: ‘Don’t watch. Turn off the TV. Go and touch grass, please, for God’s sake.’
Doctor Who is set to return on 11th May, much to the anticipation of fans eagerly awaiting the new season.
