After joining the Dodgers in 2021, Sasaki’s initial season was highly publicized. However, by September this year, the young pitcher was struggling with injuries and ineffective performances. Following a stint on the injured list for a right shoulder impingement, he returned to Triple-A Oklahoma City, where his fastball velocity dropped to 93 mph.

The transition paid off. Sasaki consistently exceeded 100 mph on his fastball and showcased a formidable splitter, earning crucial saves in the Dodgers’ playoff victories, including a win against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts praised Sasaki’s evolution. “When he came back, I told him he’s got a different look now,” Roberts said. “He’s got the look of a killer.” Hill noted that the Dodgers’ ability to connect and communicate with players has been key to developing talent like Sasaki.

Sasaki’s lack of extensive instruction before joining the Dodgers posed challenges, but his natural talent allowed him to succeed despite physical issues.
