RALEIGH, N.C. — Iconic first-person shooter games DOOM and DOOM 2 are set to receive a new physical re-release that will excite avid fans of the franchise. Limited Run Games announced that the ‘Will It Run Edition’ will be available starting April 18, featuring a specialized handheld console designed to play these classic titles directly.

This unique edition pays homage to the beloved meme of discovering every potential platform that can run DOOM. The Collector’s Edition Box not only includes a handheld device modeled after the infamous Cacodemon but also boasts USB ports for connecting controllers. With just 666 copies available for $666 each, this release captures both the nostalgia and humor that has surrounded the series since its inception in 1993.

Each ‘Will It Run Edition’ comes complete with a Cacodemon statue and a certificate of authenticity, ensuring buyers recognize their limited edition number among the 666 crafted by Limited Run Games. In addition to the handheld console, fans will receive all the components of the Big Box Edition, which includes both the original soundtrack and a modern rendition by IDKFA, as well as five collectible DOOM trading cards.

The Standard Edition will also be available for players who prefer a straightforward physical game release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S without the additional collectibles. The Standard Edition is priced at $29.99, while the Big Box Edition is set at $99.99.

The Will It Run Edition serves not only as a collector’s dream but also as a lighthearted acknowledgment of the series’ legacy as it approaches 30 years since its original debut. Pre-orders for the Will It Run Edition open just weeks before the latest installment of the franchise is scheduled for release on May 15, 2025, extending id Software’s modern reboot that began with 2016’s DOOM.

A spokesperson for Limited Run Games commented, “This is the only collector’s edition that plays DOOM, and it will be a highlight for fans hoping to celebrate the legacy of the franchise.” The company aims to provide collectors and enthusiasts with a means to connect with the games while appreciating the humorous aspect of DOOM’s history of running on unconventional devices.

In addition to the limited edition offerings, the titles have been enhanced to offer a new deathmatch pack with 25 maps, showcasing the continued evolution of this franchise rooted in groundbreaking gaming history. By juxtaposing a collector’s edition with practical gameplay, the release echoes the sentiment surrounding the title—what platform can’t DOOM run on?

That fervor for DOOM continues in the gaming community, as evidenced by threads and social media posts dedicated to finding ways to run the game on various devices. As the excitement builds for the new DOOM + DOOM 2 release, fans are encouraged to set reminders for April 18, ensuring they don’t miss the chance at owning a piece of gaming history.
