Dragon’s Den Moment: Deborah Meaden’s Edible Condom Confusion Leads to Hilarious Exchange
The Den of Dragons was filled with laughter and amusement as Deborah Meaden unintentionally steered the pitch into an unexpected and comical turn on the latest episode of the renowned show.
Tasty Mates, an entrepreneurial venture led by Joe Woolf, stepped into the Den with their delectable gourmet gummy sweets. However, the real hilarity ensued when Deborah, one of the Dragons, innocently inquired about the existence of ‘Mates condoms’ with an added twist of ‘edible condoms’ mix-up.
Amidst the uproar of laughter in the Den, Peter Jones humorously pointed out that while there was indeed a brand called Mates, consuming the condoms was not the intended use. Deborah’s witty response added to the light-hearted banter as she mentioned her indigestion issues, attributing them jokingly to her imaginary consumption of the inedible condoms.
Steven Bartlett added a touch of familial jest by quipping about the unusual nature of hearing parental figures jest about such topics, which prompted a playful response from Deborah as she playfully smacked him on the arm.
Despite the amusing diversion caused by the naming confusion, Deborah took a more serious tone in evaluating Joe’s pitch, expressing concerns about the lack of compelling branding for Tasty Mates. She emphasized the importance of a compelling story for the brand’s success and ultimately decided not to invest in the venture.
However, Peter Jones saw potential in Joe’s entrepreneurial spirit and offered an enticing deal of £60,000 for 20 percent of the business. After a bit of negotiation by Joe and Peter, an agreement was reached, with Peter agreeing to decrease his equity stake to 15 percent if he recouped his investment within a year, which Joe accepted.
