Drew Barrymore Talk Show Episode

NEW YORK, NY — Drew Barrymore shared a personal relationship experience during a recent episode of her daytime talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show, discussing the complexities of living arrangements in romantic relationships.

The conversation stemmed from a Reddit post about a bride who called off her wedding after discovering her fiancé had secretly purchased a house with his mother. Barrymore revealed her own similar experience. “This happened to me,” she stated. “I totally have been through something like you’ve been through, although I was not engaged.”

Barrymore reminisced about moving into a cute little house in Los Feliz, California, with a boyfriend whose identity she chose not to disclose. “I was really excited,” she said, envisioning herself as “a hipster with my live-in boyfriend.” However, her excitement quickly dissolved when her boyfriend revealed his mother would be moving in with them.

“We move in, he goes, ‘By the way, my mom is going to come stay with us,’” Barrymore recalled. When she asked how long his mother would stay, he replied, “Like, maybe forever. Indefinitely. She’s gonna move in with us.” At that moment, Barrymore knew the relationship wasn’t right for her.

“I literally go, ‘I gotta go. I gotta go. Are you out of your mind? Have I met your mother?’” she explained. “He’s like, ‘No.’ I’m like, ‘So I don’t know your mother.’ And he’s like, ‘No. I think you’ll be fine.’” Her response, displaying her unease, was clear: “I have mother issues, I’m leaving! Here’s my laundry basket. I’m out!”

Barrymore emphasized the importance of communication in relationships, particularly regarding significant lifestyle changes. “It’s not OK to spring the mom is coming to move in with you on someone,” she pointed out, noting that open dialogue is essential.

In past episodes, Barrymore has also tackled her complicated relationship with her own mother, having described their interactions as confusing growing up. “I was so confused about sexuality because my mom went and dated my boyfriends,” she shared in an April episode. Barrymore credited her mother for the opportunities she has had in her career, saying, “If my mom hadn’t schlepped me to every audition and become my manager, I might not be sitting here right now.”

The Drew Barrymore Show airs on weekdays on CBS, providing insights into both celebrity life and personal stories.
