Dylan and Streisand Finally Record Duet After Decades of Anticipation

NEW YORK, NY — Iconic artists Bob Dylan and Barbra Streisand are set to release their first duet on a forthcoming album titled The Secret Of Life: Partners, Volume Two. The album, scheduled for release on April 30, 2025, features collaborations with several notable musicians, including Hozier, Paul McCartney, Mariah Carey, and Ariana Grande.
The long-awaited collaboration between Dylan and Streisand has been years in the making. In a 1971 interview, Dylan expressed admiration for Streisand’s work. A few years later, he reached out in hopes of a formal partnership. “Back in the 1970s he sent me flowers and a charming note,” Streisand recalled in her memoir, My Name is Barbra. “He asked me if I would like to sing with him.”
In 1978, Streisand penned a letter thanking Dylan for his note and suggested they record together. Dylan’s archive houses these exchanges, which illustrate their mutual respect and artistic connection. In 1983, as her film Yentl was being released, Dylan sent Streisand a copy of his new album, expressing eagerness to see her movie and suggesting he would like her to direct him one day.
Despite their ongoing correspondence, a duet never came to fruition until recently. Streisand’s manager confirmed in 2020 that Dylan’s song “Lay Lady Lay” was originally written for her. Reflecting on this, Streisand mused, “I should have called him and said, ‘So Bob, what song were you thinking we could sing together? And let’s do it now, because we’re not getting any younger.’”
The duet will feature the classic “The Very Thought of You,” though it remains unclear whether they will perform the traditional version or a jazz standard. The album will include a mix of both classic and contemporary songs, including “Fragile” by Sting, which Streisand will perform with the original artist.
This announcement has excited fans of both artists. Additionally, Streisand will collaborate with Icelandic singer-songwriter Laufey on a track that is anticipated to become a favorite for future celebrations.
As anticipation builds for the album’s release, fans reflect on the significance of this long-awaited collaboration between two legendary musicians.
