Eddie Redmayne Nominated Again at SAG Awards for ‘The Day of the Jackal’

LOS ANGELES, Feb. 23, 2025 — Eddie Redmayne received a nomination for the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards for his performance as a deadly assassin in the new television series ‘The Day of the Jackal.’ This marks the actor’s seventh and eighth SAG nominations to date, highlighting his continued prominence in film and television.
Redmayne previously won a SAG Award in 2015 for his portrayal of Stephen Hawking in ‘The Theory of Everything.’ His acceptance speech at that time dedicated the award to those living with ALS and those who have lost their lives to the disease. “Thank you for allowing someone who gave up science when they were 14 years old to enter your orbit,” he said, expressing deep gratitude to Stephen and Jane Hawking.
While Redmayne was not in attendance at this year’s ceremony due to prior commitments, he spoke about his new role as the titular Jackal, a character well-known from the 1973 film. Redmayne noted, “When the scripts arrived for this, there was great trepidation from my point because you don’t want to butcher something that you love.” He added that the modern adaptation of the original film retained the ‘analog, old school, spycraft satisfaction’ that he cherished. “When I read the scripts, I just couldn’t put them down. I thought this is something I want to be a part of,” he said.
‘The Day of the Jackal’ is currently streaming on Peacock. Redmayne shared his hope for warmer filming locations for the second chapter of the series, expressing a wish for settings in places like the Maldives or Turks and Caicos. “That is where my focus currently lies,” he remarked while discussing the challenges posed by London’s winter.
This year’s SAG Awards is hosted by Kristen Bell and will honor exceptional performances in film and television in 2024. Notable nominees include stars like Timothée Chalamet, Pamela Anderson, Ariana Grande, and Martin Short. The awards will be streamed live on Netflix from the Shrine Auditorium.
In advance of the ceremony, Redmayne’s career has been recognized for iconic roles in productions like ‘Les Misérables’, ‘The Danish Girl’, and ‘The Trial of the Chicago 7’. Since his last appearance at the SAGs in 2023, where he made headlines for his fashion choices, Redmayne has continued to evolve as an actor.
As the SAG Awards approach, industry insiders anticipate memorable moments and surprises as Hollywood stars gather to celebrate the finest achievements in screen acting.
