Eiza González Receives Strong Support for Evelyn Hugo Film Role

LOS ANGELES, March 21, 2025 — Actress Eiza González has garnered a significant endorsement to portray the lead role in the upcoming film adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid‘s bestselling novel, “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo.” The exciting news surfaced during her promotional appearance on E! News’ “The Rundown,” where host Erin Lim expressed her hopes for casting González as the titular character.
“I love the writer,” González shared, revealing her longstanding admiration for Reid, who has been a crucial part of her literary journey. “[Reid and I] followed each other on social media, and she would send me all her new books ahead of time, which I was such a fan of. I love Taylor; she’s so talented.”
González spoke highly of Reid’s novel, calling it “incredible,” and expressed her gratitude for the support from fans who envision her in the role of Evelyn Hugo. “It’s the biggest honor,” she said, highlighting her excitement about the potential opportunity.
While filming her latest project, “The Fountain of Youth,” González received an unexpected endorsement from her co-star, Natalie Portman. The actress recalled Portman stating, “I can’t think of anyone else to do Evelyn Hugo.” A stunned González remarked, “I was like, ‘Natalie Portman is saying that to me.’ I don’t know if I’ll ever get it. It’d be such an honor. And I don’t even know what’s happening with that project. I love the book. I love all her stuff. I’m a huge fan.”
Adding to the excitement, González also praised the adaptation of Reid’s recent work, “Daisy Jones & The Six,” indicating her confidence in the creative team behind the projects. “They did such an amazing job with that film adaptation,” she noted.
“The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” narrates the life of a fictional Hollywood star, Evelyn Hugo, as she gives a final interview to an unknown journalist, Monique Grant. A report from Deadline last month confirmed that the Netflix adaptation is in the works, with author Taylor Jenkins Reid collaborating on the script alongside Liz Tigelaar. Liza Chasin will produce for 3Dot Productions, with Brad Mendelsohn representing Circle Management + Production.
The anticipation for both González’s potential casting and the adaptation itself has escalated among fans, many of whom are eager to see how this iconic story will translate to the screen.
