Eiza Gonzalez Supports Grigor Dimitrov After Wimbledon Injury

London, United Kingdom — Actress Eiza Gonzalez publicly expressed her support for boyfriend Grigor Dimitrov after he suffered a heartbreaking injury that forced him to retire during a match at Wimbledon on Monday. Dimitrov, 34, was leading against world No. 1 Jannik Sinner with scores of 6-3, 7-5, and 2-2 when the incident occurred.
Following the match, Gonzalez shared an emotional message to her eight million Instagram followers. She wrote, “Love of my life. I couldn’t be more proud of you. You are BEYOND outstanding. This is just a moment that will pass and make you even stronger.”
Gonzalez highlighted Dimitrov’s resilience, stating, “You’re a winner. We all saw it. And you’ll do it again. I love you @grigordimitrov.” The couple confirmed their relationship in May and have been supportive of each other since.
Dimitrov’s injury came abruptly after he served an ace to level the match at 2-2 in the third set. He dropped to his knees in pain, clutching his right pectoral muscle. Despite receiving treatment off the court, he returned but was unable to continue, marking his fifth consecutive Grand Slam retirement.
The emotional scene unfolded on Centre Court, leaving many in the crowd in dismay as Dimitrov exited in tears. Sinner, who would ultimately win the match, expressed sympathy for Dimitrov, stating, “I don’t take this as a win at all. This is just a very unfortunate moment to witness for all of us.”
In a show of sportsmanship, Sinner added, “It is very sad. We wish him only the best.” This incident adds to Dimitrov’s challenging history at Grand Slam tournaments, where injuries have frequently hindered his performance.
