Ellen DeGeneres Finalizes West Hollywood Sale Amid UK Move

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, have made a significant real estate move, finalizing the sale of their West Hollywood home as they transition their lives to the Cotswolds in England. The couple sold their two-bedroom, two-bathroom Spanish bungalow for $5.2 million on March 20, 2025, just days after listing the property for $4,995,000.
Located near Butterfly Beach, the intimate home spans 1,691 square feet and features ‘spa-like’ bathrooms, a private terrace, and a chef-style kitchen equipped with stainless steel appliances and limestone countertops. The property had garnered multiple offers within just two days of hitting the market, according to representatives from Riskin Partners Estate Group, who handled the sale.
This sale marks another chapter in the couple’s decision to sever ties with their U.S. assets, a move that began after they established permanent residency in the Cotswolds in late 2024. DeGeneres, 67, and de Rossi, 52, have expressed their desire to settle down in a quieter environment, away from the public eye they experienced in California.
The couple originally purchased the property in 2021 for approximately $2.9 million, making this their third investment in the Montecito area within a single year. Built in 1954 and remodeled in 2012, the home’s modern features, including floor-to-ceiling glass doors and acoustic fencing, designed to minimize noise, illustrate the blend of luxury and comfort prominent in DeGeneres’s real estate portfolio.
“I don’t really travel a lot, so house flipping is my version of travel,” DeGeneres remarked in a 2023 interview with The Riv. “With house flipping, the scenery changes though I stay in the same general area.” Over her expansive career, she has acquired and sold over 50 houses.
The recent sale follows a national trend among celebrities seeking a change of scenery amidst political upheaval in the United States. Reports indicate that applications for UK citizenship surged by 40% in the last quarter of 2024, partly attributed to discontent surrounding the election results.
DeGeneres and de Rossi’s decision to relocate came soon after Donald Trump’s re-election announcement. Numerous sources claim this motivated the couple to seek a fresh start in Europe, where they hope to enjoy a more serene lifestyle.
As they settle into their new home in the picturesque British countryside, the couple appears eager to embrace their surroundings. DeGeneres has shared glimpses of their new life on social media, expressing gratitude for the 20 years spent together with de Rossi with heartfelt posts, highlighting their bond amidst this life transition.
The sale of their West Hollywood property is not just a financial transaction, but a significant shift for a couple redefining their lives in a new cultural landscape.
