Emma D'arcy Opens Up About Loneliness Filming House Of The Dragon Season 2

Emma D’Arcy, known for their role as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen in the HBO series, House of the Dragon, recently provided insight into the challenges they faced while filming season two.

During a series of interviews surrounding the launch of the show’s second season, D’Arcy expressed feelings of isolation and loneliness on set, sparking concern among fans about their future with the series.

The 31-year-old actor shared how the storyline in season two led to a physical separation from many cast members, including Matt Smith, who portrays Prince Daemon Targaryen, and Olivia Cooke, who plays Dowager Queen Alicent Hightower.

At the premiere in New York, Emma D’Arcy mentioned that filming without Smith and Cooke made it feel ‘kind of lonely,’ highlighting the impact the separation had on their experience.

With no official announcement regarding a third season’s cast, fans have speculated about the possibility of D’Arcy leaving the show following their comments about the challenges faced during season two.

House of the Dragon showrunner, Ryan Condal, confirmed that early development for a third season is underway, adding to the anticipation surrounding the future of the series.

In the upcoming season, Rhaenyra Targaryen, portrayed by D’Arcy, will be pitted against her uncle Daemon Targaryen and her half-brother Aegon II, played by Tom Glynn-Carney, in a Targaryen civil war.

Season two’s storyline, which sees characters embarking on separate paths and engaging in conflict, caused the actors, including D’Arcy, Smith, and Cooke, to feel a sense of loss and longing for their shared experiences on set.

Despite the challenges of being physically separated from cast members, D’Arcy emphasized the excitement and thrill of reuniting on set to continue their characters’ journeys.

As fans eagerly await further casting announcements and the unfolding of the Targaryen saga, House of the Dragon season two is set to premiere on Max on June 16 and on Sky on June 17, promising more intrigue and drama for viewers.
