Emmy-Winning Comedy ‘Hacks’ Returns for Tense Fourth Season

LOS ANGELES, March 11, 2025 — The Emmy-winning comedy series ‘Hacks‘ will return for its highly anticipated fourth season on April 10, streaming exclusively on Max. The new season, featuring 10 episodes, continues the tumultuous relationship between comedian Deborah Vance and her writer Ava Daniels as they attempt to launch their late-night show amidst heightened tensions.
Fans of ‘Hacks’ will witness the fallout from the shocking finale of Season 3, where Ava blackmailed Deborah for the head writer position. The official trailer hints at the comedic but volatile partnership as the two characters navigate the challenges of their professional and personal dynamics.
“Tensions rise as Deborah and Ava endeavor to get their late-night show off the ground and make history doing it,” the show’s logline reads. The release schedule has been strategically crafted to ensure Emmy eligibility, with the first two episodes premiering on April 10, followed by one episode weekly for four weeks. Episodes seven and eight will be available on May 15, and the season concludes with episodes nine and ten on May 22 and May 29, respectively, just ahead of the May 31 Emmy deadline.
Returning cast members include Jean Smart as Deborah and Hannah Einbinder as Ava, along with Paul W. Downs, Carl Clemons-Hopkins, Rose Abdoo, and more. This season brings fresh faces to the lineup, including Julianne Nicholson, Bresha Webb, and Eric Balfour, promising an exciting array of new storylines and humorous scenarios.
The creators and showrunners Gigi Anne Downs, Lucia Aniello, and Jen Statsky have emphasized their enthusiasm for this season’s exploration of character development and the nuances of behind-the-scenes late-night television. Aniello noted, “We’re going to be doing ten episodes because we’re feeling like there’s just so much to say and do.”
Both critics and fans have lauded ‘Hacks’ for its authentic representation of LGBTQ+ characters, particularly praising Einbinder’s portrayal of Ava Daniels, which earned her multiple Emmy nominations. As the April premiere approaches, viewers are encouraged to revisit the first three seasons on Max.
