End of an Era: P&O Cruises Australia Brand to Cease Operations in 2025
One of Australia‘s iconic cruise brands, P&O Cruises Australia, is set to end its nearly century-long operations in early 2025, as announced by Carnival Cruise Line, its parent company.
The decision comes as part of a strategic move to consolidate operations and optimize guest capacity, with P&O Cruises Australia being folded into Carnival Cruise Line, the world’s most popular cruise brand.
Under this transition, the Pacific Encounter and Pacific Adventure ships currently under the P&O banner will continue sailing under Carnival Cruise Line, while the Pacific Explorer will no longer operate in Australian waters.
Josh Weinstein, the CEO of Carnival Corporation & plc, mentioned the small population and higher operating costs in the South Pacific as key factors in the decision to sunset the P&O Cruises Australia brand.
Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, stated that job losses would result from the move and informed that the transition would not immediately change the cruise experience for passengers, with most aspects remaining the same.
Going forward, Carnival Cruises will absorb P&O customers on Sydney-based Carnival Splendour and Carnival Adventure, and Brisbane-based Carnival Encounter and Carnival Luminosa.
The closure of P&O Cruises Australia marks the end of an era for Australian cruisers, signaling a significant change in the cruise landscape. The rebranding process is expected to bring about technology upgrades and minor changes to enhance the guest experience.
Despite the brand realignment, Peter Little, a long-serving executive, will continue leading the team in Australia, ensuring continuity in operations and service.
