New York Mets infielder Jose Iglesias brought a unique twist to the team’s tradition of post-game music performances on Friday night at Citi Field. Iglesias, under the moniker Candelita, took center stage to sing his song ‘OMG’ in front of a packed crowd of 32,465 fans.

The atmosphere at Citi Field was electric as Iglesias, a seasoned shortstop with over 12 years of experience, belted out his song while being accompanied by dancers for an exhilarating performance that involved his teammates joining in the fun. The catchy chorus of ‘Oh my God!’ had the adrenaline pumping among both players and fans.

Iglesias later expressed his elation at the experience, calling it a dream come true to perform in front of such a supportive audience at Citi Field. The energy of the moment was infectious, with his teammates like Jeff McNeil and Francisco Lindor continuing to hum the song post-performance.

The 34-year-old Iglesias, known for his love of music, penned the track ‘OMG’ as a way to infuse maximum enjoyment into the game. Since its debut as his walkup song when he was called up from Triple-A Syracuse, the Mets have fully embraced ‘OMG,’ with the song now being played after every home run at Citi Field.

Jose Quintana, a fellow Mets pitcher, remarked on the impact of Iglesias’ performance, predicting that the song will become a staple at Mets games due to its popularity. The Mets have seen a resurgence in form since Iglesias joined the team, boasting a 17-6 record and finally achieving an above-.500 status for the first time since May 2.

Following the performance, ‘OMG’ was released on various streaming platforms on the same day, ahead of schedule, marking a significant milestone in Iglesias’ dual career as a baseball player and musician. The enthusiastic response to the song’s release was palpable, underscoring its growing popularity among fans and players alike.

Manager Carlos Mendoza, sporting an ‘OMG’ shirt, recognized the uniqueness of the occasion, acknowledging the impact of an active player releasing a hit song. The Mets will now look to capitalize on the positive energy generated by Iglesias’ performance to fuel their momentum for the upcoming games.
