Epic Games Announces Major Changes to Revenue Sharing for Developers

Fortnite, North Carolina – Epic Games announced significant changes to its revenue-sharing structure for the Epic Games Store, effective June 2025. Developers will pay a 0% revenue share on their first $1 million in annual revenue per app, after which the standard 88%/12% revenue share will apply.
This move comes as part of a broader strategy to attract developers to the Epic Games Store, which has faced competition from major players like Apple and Google. Currently, these platforms impose hefty fees, often up to 30% for in-app purchases. With new legal rulings, Epic aims to provide a more favorable environment for developers.
Moreover, Epic will introduce a new feature allowing developers to launch their own webshops. This enables players to make digital purchases outside of the app environment, providing a cheaper alternative to existing payment systems that charge high fees. Epic’s CEO, Tim Sweeney, viewed these changes as a victory, stating that the company is committed to offering better terms than its competitors.
Sweeney remarked, “With new legal rulings in place, developers will be able to direct players to external webshops for digital purchases. This is a game-changer for the industry.”
Players who shop through the new Epic webshops will also earn 5% in Epic Rewards on all purchases, further encouraging consumer engagement. This change reflects Epic’s ongoing battle with Apple over payment fees, and it remains to be seen how it will impact user adoption of the Epic Games Store.
