Eric Dane Opens Up About His ALS Struggle in Emotional Interview

NEW YORK, NY — Actor Eric Dane discussed his recent diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in a heartfelt interview with Diane Sawyer on “Good Morning America“. This marks his first sit-down since announcing the news to the public in April.
In a teaser clip released on June 12, the 52-year-old star of “Grey’s Anatomy” shared, “I wake up every day and I’m immediately reminded that this is happening. It’s not a dream.” The emotional segment shows Dane and Sawyer holding hands as they discuss the challenges he faces.
Dane expressed optimism about his future, saying, “I don’t think this is the end of my story. I don’t feel like this is the end of me.” The clip also highlights the actor breaking down in tears, showcasing the deep emotional impact of his diagnosis.
<p ALS, often called Lou Gehrig's disease, affects motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord, leading to progressive muscle weakness and paralysis. There is currently no cure for ALS, and the average life expectancy after diagnosis ranges from two to five years, though some patients have lived much longer.
Speaking about his family, Dane mentioned, “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.” He is married to Rebecca Gayheart, and they have two daughters, aged 15 and 13.
The full interview will air on “Good Morning America” on June 16. Dane’s courage in facing ALS has resonated widely with fans and the public alike.
