Eric McCormack, best known for his role in ‘Will & Grace,’ will guest star in the midseason premiere of CBS‘s ‘Elsbeth.’ The episode, titled ‘Unalive and Well,’ airs on Thursday, January 30, at 10 p.m. ET. McCormack plays Tom Murphey, the founder of a holistic wellness center under investigation after a young man is found dead following a visit to the facility.

The episode marks a pivotal moment in the show’s second season, as Elsbeth Tascioni (Carrie Preston) delves into a case that intertwines with her controversial past in Chicago. The storyline follows the leak of documents tied to a high-profile divorce case, which has put Elsbeth’s reputation at risk. Showrunner Jonathan Tolins previously hinted that this arc would significantly impact her role within the NYPD.

In the exclusive clip shared by PEOPLE, Captain Wagner (Wendell Pierce) assigns Elsbeth and Officer Blanke (Carra Patterson) to investigate the death of Cole Campbell, whose car ran off the highway after visiting the wellness center. Wagner humorously references Meghan Markle, joking about the media’s tendency to blame her for unrelated events.

McCormack’s guest appearance adds a new layer to the show’s satirical take on celebrity wellness culture. The episode also features guest stars Marcia Debonis, Katie Huang, and Dan Cordle, alongside series regulars Danny Mastrogiorgio and Carra Patterson.

‘Elsbeth’ Season 2 will consist of 20 episodes, doubling the length of its debut season. Fans can expect more twists and turns as the series explores Elsbeth’s evolving challenges in New York City.
