Erie Insurance 100th Tree Planting Event

ERIE, Pa. — Erie Insurance celebrated its commitment to environmental sustainability on April 16, 2025, by planting its 100th tree as part of a community enhancement initiative. This milestone coincided with the company’s 100th anniversary, marking a significant moment in their ongoing 100 Tree Project.

The final tree, a 10-foot Colonial Spirit Elm, was planted on East 6th Street, right in front of the Thomas B. Hagen Building. The project aimed to improve the streetscape surrounding the company’s downtown corporate campus, which encompasses 40 acres.

Tom Hagen, Chairman of Erie Insurance, emphasized the company’s continued dedication to environmental stewardship. “It’s time to do replanting. We wanted to get it started to be an example, and it won’t end here. I will say, we will continue planting trees throughout our campus because it’s needed,” Hagen stated during the planting ceremony.

Initiated in April 2023, the 100 Tree Project was structured in three phases. It involved planting 100 trees around the downtown office, another 100 trees at Erie Insurance’s 25 branch and claims offices, and a distribution initiative wherein 1,900 trees were given to employees for planting on their properties across 12 states.

This initiative showcases how businesses can take an active role in improving community landscapes while also promoting sustainability. The 100 Tree Project not only beautifies the area but also contributes to ecological benefit, enhancing air quality and providing habitats for wildlife.

Community members and employees participated enthusiastically in these efforts, reflecting a shared commitment to a greener future. Such initiatives are critical as cities seek to combat climate change and enhance urban environments.
