Molly Qerim Espn First Take Host

BRISTOL, Conn. — ESPN announced it will take 30 to 45 days to find a new host for the morning show “First Take” following Molly Qerim’s departure, which was confirmed earlier this week.

Burke Magnus, the president of content at ESPN, stated in an interview with The Athletic on Thursday that Qerim has been a staple of the show since 2015 and praised her contributions as both a person and a professional. “Molly Qerim is a wonderful person and an unbelievable teammate and colleague,” he said.

Qerim’s exit was accelerated after a Monday report from Sports Business Journal revealed she would be leaving by the end of the year. In a heartfelt Instagram post, Qerim expressed her feelings about stepping away. “After much reflection, I’ve decided it’s time to close this incredible chapter and step away from ‘First Take’,” she wrote.

She added, “Hosting this show has been one of the greatest honors of my career. I’m so grateful for what this journey has given me: lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, and the chance to be part of something truly special.”

Magnus noted that ESPN had hoped to keep Qerim with the network, but both sides recognized the need for a change. “We tried to have her do other things and to redo that agreement, but it became more about her wanting to explore different opportunities,” he explained.

As for the search for her replacement, Magnus confirmed that it remains open-ended. “I don’t know if it’ll be someone in-house or not. We’re not locked into anything in particular,” he said. “We’re going to take probably about 30 to 45 days to try a variety of in-house people.”

Qerim had joined ESPN in 2006, starting with digital and mobile platforms before taking on a prominent role in television broadcasting. Stephen A. Smith, her longtime co-host, is expected to continue leading the show during the transition period.
