Ethan Horvath Cardiff City Fa Cup Save

Ethan Horvath delivered a standout performance in his first Cardiff City start in over four months, helping the Bluebirds secure a 1-0 victory over Sheffield United in the FA Cup third round on Thursday. The 29-year-old U.S. men's national team goalkeeper made seven crucial saves, earning Man of the Match honors and keeping a clean sheet at Bramall Lane.

Cian Ashford scored the decisive goal in the 19th minute, marking his third goal for Cardiff City in all competitions. The 20-year-old’s strike gave the visitors an early lead, but Horvath’s heroics ensured the advantage held. Sheffield United’s Louie Marsh was denied twice in quick succession by Horvath shortly after the goal, while Rhian Brewster also saw his efforts thwarted by the veteran goalkeeper.

In the second half, Sheffield United continued to press for an equalizer, but Horvath remained unbeatable. Ryan One and Brewster were both denied, and Harrison Burrows struck the post in the 88th minute. Brewster’s last-gasp header in stoppage time was comfortably gathered by Horvath, sealing the win for Cardiff City.

The victory could provide a much-needed boost for Cardiff City, who currently sit in the EFL Championship relegation zone. Horvath, who last started for the club on August 31, will likely feature again in the fourth round of the FA Cup in February. Cardiff City now turns its attention to league play, with a match against Watford scheduled for January 14.
