Eugene Depasquale And Dave Sunday Pennsylvania Attorney General Election

Eugene DePasquale, the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania‘s attorney general, is in a highly contested race against Republican candidate Dave Sunday. DePasquale, a former auditor general and state representative, has a diverse background that includes serving as York City’s economic development director and a three-term state representative.

During his tenure as auditor general, DePasquale drew significant attention to several critical issues, including a large backlog of untested rape kits, unanswered calls to Pennsylvania’s ChildLine child abuse hotline, and subpar conditions in nursing homes. He has emphasized his commitment to protecting voting rights and has expressed strong support for abortion rights.

Dave Sunday, the Republican candidate, is the current York County district attorney and a Navy veteran. He has highlighted his 15 years of experience as a prosecutor in York County, a region with a Republican majority. Sunday has stated that he would enforce and defend the current abortion laws in Pennsylvania, noting that he would not prosecute women for having an abortion. However, he has faced criticism from DePasquale, who points out that many of Sunday’s Republican supporters favor an abortion ban.

The race also includes several third-party candidates, including Justin Magill (Constitution Party), Eric Settle (Forward Party), Richard Weiss (Green Party), and Rob Cowburn (Libertarian Party).

The outcome of this election is crucial, as the attorney general plays a significant role in defending Pennsylvania in court cases and enforcing its laws, including election laws. The results will be updated after the polls close at 8 p.m. ET.
