Evan Blair Talks New Hit and Collaborations with Boone

LOS ANGELES, CA – Following the monumental success of his 2024 single “Beautiful Things,” which reached No. 2 on the charts and remained a top 10 hit for 70 weeks, artist Boone is gearing up for the release of his new album, American Heart. Co-writer and producer Evan Blair shared insights about working with Boone and the upcoming single “Mystical Magical.”

Blair emphasized that the dream team behind “Beautiful Things” experienced no pressure when reuniting for their next project. “I’ve been in situations in the past where following such a big hit has sunk us, and we haven’t been able to get out of the shadow,” he admitted. “But for whatever reason, [when we got back together], I don’t think we one time even talked about it.”

As they created “Mystical Magical,” Boone embraced a more fantastical persona. The song features whimsical lyrics and catchy melodies, drawing some comparisons to Olivia Newton-John’s classic hit “Physical.” “It does sound like that,” Blair remarked, recalling the initial reaction when they noticed the similarity.

The early response to “Mystical Magical” has been strong, demonstrating Boone’s ability to transition into his next chapter. Despite “Beautiful Things” remaining in the top 10, this new track has already broken into the top 40 and sits at No. 42 on the charts.

Blair praised Boone for his unique artistry. “I think that is a testament to Benson as an artist — he’s existing in culture in such a way that culture is interacting with him,” Blair said. As he reflected on their collaboration, Blair stressed the importance of friendship in their musical relationship, which enhances their creative process.

Their collaborative journey began with “Beautiful Things,” and Blair noted that the chemistry is special within their trio, including co-writer Jack LaFrantz. The process continued steadily, leading to “Mystical Magical,” which was developed toward the end of their recording sessions.

“Mystical Magical” emerged from a breakthrough moment after several days of exploration at June Audio Recording Studios. Inspired by their surroundings and willingness to have fun, the team created something fresh and unexpected.

As they moved forward with the album, Blair remained excited about other tracks that feature the same bold choices and inventive sounds. He hinted that the best is yet to come. The full album, American Heart, is set for release on June 20.
