Evan Jones Emerges as New Jeopardy Champion with Challenging Final Jeopardy Question
In the latest episode of Jeopardy aired on December 2, 2024, Evan Jones, a software designer from Seattle, Washington, secured the top spot and became the new champion. The game featured a challenging Final Jeopardy question in the category “Poetic Characters.”
The Final Jeopardy question was: “In an 1842 poem, it is said of this legendary character that his ‘quaint attire’ is much admired.” The correct answer is “Who is the Pied Piper of Hamelin?” This character is from Robert Browning’s poem “The Pied Piper of Hamelin,” which was written in 1842 and included in his collection “Dramatic Lyrics.”
None of the contestants managed to answer the Final Jeopardy question correctly. Evan Jones, despite guessing incorrectly with “Daniel Boone,” retained his lead and won the game with a total of $17,199. Mike Ross, a teacher from Kansas City, Missouri, finished second after losing $3,100 with his incorrect answer of “Falstaff,” ending with $10,100. Susan Beachy, a news researcher from Queens, New York, finished third with $3,000 after her incorrect guess of “Longfellow.”
The game saw significant shifts in scores, particularly due to a reversal in the “America Before the Revolution” category, where Evan’s answer was deemed incorrect due to unnecessary detail, resulting in a $400 deduction from his score.
