Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman Embark on ‘Long Way Home’

Perthshire, Scotland – Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman have returned for their fourth adventure series, ‘Long Way Home’, which premiered on Apple TV+ on May 9, 2025. The duo is embarking on a 10,000-mile journey across 17 European countries on vintage motorbikes.
This time, McGregor and Boorman are riding a 1974 Moto Guzzi Eldorado and a BMW R75/5, marking a shift from electric bikes used in their previous series. Their journey starts from McGregor’s home in Scotland and ends at Boorman’s in England, winding through the Arctic Circle, the Baltics, and the Alps.
The series aims for a more relatable vibe, showing the friends with their families. McGregor mentions, “We’re going to follow our noses and see what we find on the open road,” capturing their laid-back approach.
The first episode focuses on preparations, including a humorous subplot involving McGregor’s toddler son misplacing his phone. When the two finally hit the road in the second episode, they are greeted by a marching band as they leave Perthshire to catch a ferry to the Netherlands.
In Amsterdam, they sample local cuisine and engage with cultural activities, such as watching a traditional sport known as fierljeppen. Yet, as with many travel shows, spontaneous encounters tend to overshadow their pre-planned activities, adding real charm to their journey.
The friends visit Boorman’s late mother’s hometown in Germany, where they celebrate the local culture, including joining a gun club’s festivities. They also connect with locals across Europe, diving into the richness of each destination.
While the series comprises ten episodes, some critics feel it could benefit from being shorter. Still, many fans find the slower pace and focus on relationships appealing, aligning with the show’s “slow TV” ethos.
McGregor remarked on the challenge of riding vintage bikes, stating, “They’re fixable… you could probably get them running again.” This hands-on approach allows for a more rugged and adventurous experience, contrasting with the high-tech issues experienced on previous trips.
The series celebrates 20 years since their first journey together, ‘Long Way Round,’ which changed how adventure travel is perceived on television. As they travel, McGregor and Boorman continue to explore the world from their unique perspectives, bringing their enduring friendship to the forefront of ‘Long Way Home’.
