NEW YORK, NY — After a successful six-season run of “Sex and the City,” fans were treated to a two-and-a-half-hour movie that follows Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha in their next chapter of life. With changes to their hair, locations, and lifestyles, the film raises the question: Should it have ended with the series?

Despite the chaos surrounding the other three women, Charlotte emerges as the film’s shining star. Focusing on her happiness, Charlotte navigates life with her husband Harry, their adopted daughter Lily, and a collection of tiny dogs. She manages to keep her Upper East Side apartment while thriving and ultimately becomes pregnant with her second child, Rose. Charlotte’s consistent optimism stands out among her friends as she embraces motherhood and friendship.

Samantha’s storyline takes a surprising twist when she moves to Los Angeles with her boyfriend, Smith. Known for her strong personality, Samantha struggles to fit into the laid-back Californian lifestyle, ultimately prioritizing her own happiness with the declaration, “I love you, but I love me more.” Her character remains true to her self-preservation throughout the narrative.

Miranda’s journey, however, reveals a more turbulent path. While enjoying a fairytale ending with Steve in the series, the film depicts the strain in their relationship, culminating in Steve’s confession of infidelity. Miranda battles feelings of loneliness while juggling her law career and family, ultimately choosing to reignite her love for Steve, despite the complexities involved.

Meanwhile, Carrie’s plot evolves around her tumultuous relationship with Mr. Big. Following their reunion in Paris, they move into a penthouse and begin wedding preparations. However, Big’s infamous commitment issues resurface when he abandons her on their wedding day. This moment sets off a comedic but painful journey as Carrie grapples with heartbreak, flanked by her supportive friends.

The film intertwines humorous moments, from Charlotte’s food fears to Carrie’s dramatic pursuits. Actress Jennifer Hudson appears as Louise, Carrie’s new assistant, who aids in her recovery post-breakup, introducing a fresh perspective amidst the returning drama.

Despite deep-rooted friendships and laughs, the film still raises concerns about its narrative choices. Many fans are left to ponder the ending, which finds Carrie reuniting with Big over a pair of designer shoes. Ultimately, the film wraps up the ongoing arcs of the characters but questions linger about whether the beloved series should have concluded with its final season.
