LOS ANGELES, California – As the seventh season of ABC‘s police drama, The Rookie, approaches its conclusion on May 13, showrunner Alexi Hawley hints at a thrilling finale likened to a “big action movie.” Fans are already speculating about season eight, hoping to see the return of beloved character Pete Nolan.

Hawley recently shared that Pete’s team has “reached out” regarding his return, saying, “It’s just about trying to land when he’s actually available, because he’s super busy.” Pete, who first appeared in season two, has returned in various seasons but his future remains uncertain as he juggles a busy schedule.

This season’s finale is set to showcase an adventurous story arc featuring John Nolan, played by Nathan Fillion, and Nyla Harper, played by Mekia Cox, as they venture into the desert. Hawley promises fans will be treated to significant action sequences throughout the episode.

Meanwhile, character Lucy Chen, played by Melissa O’Neill, navigates the challenges of working nights after passing her sergeant exam. John Nolan and Bailey Nune, portrayed by Jenna Dewan, face their own struggles as their adoption application was denied, citing the inherent dangers of their jobs.

“It has come to an end, sadly, with a lot of low points,” Hawley reflected on the characters’ journey, adding, “But that’s also a reality for lots of people.” In a recent penultimate episode, Seth Ridley bids farewell to his LAPD career after a life-altering injury during a heroic act to save Nolan.

Ridley’s departure highlights the show’s commitment to exploring the profound challenges faced by first responders. As fans await updates on Ridley’s potential return, Nathan Fillion remains busy, continuing his role on the popular series.
