“Fast X: Part Two” to Return to Gritty Roots, Says Jordana Brewster
LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Jordana Brewster, who has played Mia Toretto in the “Fast & Furious” franchise since its inception, revealed that the final installment, “Fast X: Part Two,” should return to its gritty, street-racing roots. The actress, who first appeared in 2001’s “The Fast and the Furious,” shared her vision for the franchise’s conclusion during an interview promoting her upcoming projects.
“Yeah, big time. I would like to go back to the roots of the first one,” Brewster said. “I think it should be back in LA, I think it should be gritty, and I think Mia should go back to being part of a group that’s kicking some ass.” Brewster emphasized that her character should shed her “mommy shoes” and return to her action-packed origins.
The “Fast & Furious” franchise began as a street-racing series but evolved into a global action saga involving espionage, heists, and high-stakes conspiracies. However, Brewster believes the final chapter should honor its beginnings. “She’s going to leave her mommy shoes behind,” she added, referencing Mia’s role as a mother in recent films.
In “Fast X,” Mia played a supporting role, protecting Dom Toretto’s son, Brian, alongside Jakob Toretto, played by John Cena. However, she was notably absent from the film’s climactic battle, leaving fans wondering about her future in the franchise. Brewster hinted that Mia could play a pivotal role in saving Dom and his crew in the final installment.
Vin Diesel, who stars as Dominic Toretto and serves as a producer, recently announced that “Fast X: Part Two” would return to Los Angeles for filming. The decision comes after Brewster suggested the move, citing the emotional and economic impact of recent wildfires in Southern California. “Los Angeles needs it now more than ever,” Diesel said in a social media post. “Los Angeles is where Fast and Furious started filming 25 years ago… and now Fast will finally return home.”
The final film, expected to premiere in 2026, will follow the cliffhanger ending of “Fast X,” which saw Dom and his son fighting for survival after a dam explosion, while their friends faced their own peril after their plane was shot down. Brewster’s absence from these scenes leaves room for her character to take center stage in the franchise’s conclusion.
Since its debut in 2001, the “Fast & Furious” franchise has grossed over $7 billion worldwide, becoming one of the most successful film series in history. Fans are eager to see how the saga will conclude, with Brewster’s call for a return to its roots adding to the anticipation.
