Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt Reveals Inspirations Behind 2006 Film ‘Ankahee’
Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt, renowned for his intriguing thrillers, recently shed light on the inspirations behind his 2006 film ‘Ankahee’. In an exclusive interview with X, Bhatt was questioned about the extent to which the film mirrored his own life. He responded, ‘Quite a bit. I would say it was semi-fictionalised.’
When specifically asked if the movie drew inspiration from his relationship with former Miss Universe and Bollywood star Sushmita Sen, Vikram Bhatt confirmed, ‘I think it was based on my situation with Sushmita and my wife. However, it wasn’t an adaptation of specific incidents. Sometimes, emotions are borrowed and fictionalized. So, it was a real emotion in a fictionalized world.’
Vikram Bhatt addressed concerns regarding using his ex-wife, Aditi Bhatt‘s, and Sushmita Sen’s lives as inspiration for his film. Speaking in Hindi, he stated, ‘I only blamed myself in the movie, not Sushmita or my ex-wife’s character. So why be upset? I have the right to blame myself.’
When asked if Sushmita Sen was upset with him over the film, Vikram Bhatt said, ‘I don’t know. I have never asked her. But I have all the rights over my own life and my own story, not anyone else’s life.’
Reflecting on his eventful relationships, including highly publicized ones with Sushmita Sen and Ameesha Patel, the filmmaker expressed that each relationship had taught him valuable lessons. He asserted that the pain endured had influenced his spiritual journey and contributed to his personal growth. Bhatt added, ‘I believe that we all choose our lessons before we are born, and I think I chose these. Everything that has happened is my decision. I let it happen. Nothing that has happened to me has happened without my permission.’
When asked if he regretted his relationship with Sushmita Sen, Vikram Bhatt confidently said, ‘I don’t regret anything in my life. Not one thing. Not one mistake. I have made a lot of mistakes… This is my journey.’
Vikram Bhatt married art connoisseur Shwetambari Soni in 2020, solidifying a new chapter in his life.
