A notable highlight of this year’s nominations is the presence of several first-time nominees in the performance categories. These include Sandra Hüller, Cillian Murphy, Fantasia Barrino, Danielle Brooks, Colman Domingo, Paul Giamatti, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Dominic Sessa, Jacob Elordi, Vivian Oparah, and Teo Yoo.

Apart from the newcomers, six former EE Rising Star nominees also received nominations this year. They include Emily Blunt, Carey Mulligan, Emma Stone, Margot Robbie, and Barry Keoghan.

The Best Director category features four first-time nominees: Jonathan Glazer, Andrew Haigh, Alexander Payne, and Justine Triet. None of the nominated directors in this category have won a BAFTA before.

Additionally, three directors from the BAFTA Breakthrough cohort, alongside Vivian Oparah, have been recognized for their outstanding work.

Jane Millichip, CEO of BAFTA, expressed the difficulty in selecting the nominations due to the high number of films entered. She encouraged film fans to watch the nominated films and listen to BAFTA’s official podcast to learn more about the people behind them.

BAFTA Chair, Sara Putt, praised the diversity of this year’s nominations and the representation of both British and global filmmaking talent.

Anna Higgs, Chair of BAFTA Film Committee, described the nominated films as a reflection of the outstanding creativity and storytelling in the industry, showcasing a wide range of genres and narratives.

The EE BAFTA Film Awards will be broadcast on BBC One and iPlayer in the UK. The voting process for the awards involved BAFTA’s global membership of over 7,800 creatives and industry practitioners.
