Final Destination: Bloodlines Set to Hit Theaters on May 16, 2025
After a 14-year hiatus, the popular horror franchise *Final Destination* is set to return to theaters with its sixth installment, *Final Destination: Bloodlines*, scheduled for release on May 16, 2025. This new film marks the 25th anniversary of the original *Final Destination*, which was released in 2000.
The film is directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein, known for their work on *Freaks* and the live-action *Kim Possible* movie. The screenplay was written by Lori Evans Taylor and Guy Busick, with Jon Watts, who directed the *Spider-Man: Homecoming* trilogy, serving as a producer. Other producers include Craig Perry, Dianne McGunigle, and Sheila Hanahan Taylor.
The story follows Stefani, an 18-year-old who has horrific nightmares about a tower accident in the 1960s. She discovers that her dream is a premonition that actually happened to her grandmother, Esther, who thwarted death 50 years ago. However, Death has been pursuing the would-have-been victims of that catastrophe and their descendants, leading Stefani and her family to realize they are not safe from Death’s relentless pursuit.
The cast includes Brec Bassinger, Teo Briones, Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Richard Harmon, Anna Lore, Owen Patrick Joyner, Max Lloyd-Jones, Rya Kihlstedt, and Tinpo Lee. Notably, the late Tony Todd will posthumously reprise his role as the mysterious mortician William Bludworth.
*Final Destination: Bloodlines* will be released in IMAX, continuing the franchise’s tradition of providing an immersive theatrical experience. The film’s release date places it in a busy summer schedule, two weeks after Marvel‘s *Thunderbolts* and a week before Tom Cruise‘s *Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning* and Disney‘s live-action *Lilo & Stitch*.
The *Final Destination* franchise has been a significant player in the horror genre, with the previous five films grossing over $650 million worldwide. Despite mixed critical reception, the series has maintained a loyal fan base and is expected to revive interest with this new installment.
