LOS ANGELES, CA – After a 14-year hiatus, the Final Destination horror franchise returns to theaters with its sixth installment, Final Destination Bloodlines. Opening on May 16, 2025, the film promises to deliver gruesome and elaborate death sequences that will thrill longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Critics have responded positively to the reboot. They note that co-directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein have revitalized the series with visually impressive scenes and dark humor. One critic highlighted the film as, “the most visually impressive, emotionally compelling, and quick-witted Final Destination to date.” Another mentioned an opening sequence that may be the best in the series, showcasing the intricate sadism for which the franchise is known.

Final Destination Bloodlines not only references previous films but also pays homage, especially to Final Destination 2. Critics emphasized its knack for fan service and noted that the film is accessible for new audiences. One reviewer said, “Bloodlines feels like the first Final Destination film that’s seen a Final Destination film” and plays with audience expectations through clever bait-and-switch moments.

The film features standout performances, particularly from Richard Harmon as Erik and Tony Todd reprising his role as William Bludworth. Critics noted Todd’s touching farewell in his final screen appearance, contributing emotional weight to the film amidst its horror themes.

Bloodlines includes some of the franchise’s best kills, engaging audiences with its blend of practical effects and CGI. The levels of creativity in the death sequences have left preview audiences cheering. A review pointed out, “The most entertaining kills… have a Buster Keaton-esque flair for physical comedy.”

While the film has received praise, some critics caution that it leans more towards dark comedy than horror. It contains a narrative involving family dynamics that could distract from the thrilling action. Nonetheless, the general consensus is that Final Destination Bloodlines is a triumph for the series and a must-see for horror enthusiasts.

The film marks a significant chapter in the franchise, inviting both old fans and new viewers to witness the twisted fate of its characters.
