Finn Wolfhard Reveals Why He Lives with Family Despite Fame

VANCOUVER, Canada — Finn Wolfhard, the 22-year-old star of Netflix’s hit series “Stranger Things,” recently shared in an exclusive interview with PEOPLE that he has chosen to live with his family in Vancouver despite his significant success in the entertainment industry.

In the interview, published on April 13, Wolfhard detailed his living arrangements, explaining that after spending time living alone for a couple of years, he has returned to his family home. “I lived alone for a few years, I guess two years, and then I moved back in with my family for a year. And then, last year, I was living alone in Atlanta for the year while shooting ‘Stranger Things,’ but I have since moved back in with my family,” he said.

Wolfhard elaborated on how living with his family provides him a strong sense of stability amidst his busy career. “We have a place in Vancouver. We all have our separate space, but we still live together, and it’s great,” he said. He values this living situation, noting, “I rarely get to see my family. I think it’s a nice home base to have, just because, if I’m going to be away for most of the year working, then I might as well have a place [to come back to] with my parents.”

Born in December 2002, Wolfhard was raised in Vancouver by parents Mary Jolivet and Eric Wolfhard. In earlier interviews, he has reflected positively on his upbringing in Canada, stating, “There’s no way I’d be the same person if I wasn’t raised here in Vancouver.”

Even with his busy schedule, Wolfhard enjoys a typical young adult’s life in Vancouver. He shared his hobbies, noting, “I like to walk around Vancouver. I like to play music, play guitar in my studio, and record music on my own. It’s a great feeling.” He adds, “I am also always watching a lot of stuff, just a ton of TV and YouTube,” emphasizing the importance of downtime in his hectic routine.

Looking ahead, Wolfhard is planning a vacation in the coming months, stating playfully, “I’ll plan for a vacation in the next few months, for sure.” His current projects include the upcoming film “The Legend of Ochi,” set to hit theaters on April 25.
