Fire Destroys Clubhouse at Northern Bear Golf Course
An early morning fire at the Northern Bear Golf Course in Strathcona County, southeast of Edmonton, has completely destroyed the clubhouse on Saturday. Firefighters from Strathcona County battled the blaze in freezing temperatures of -40 degrees Celsius.
Crews responded to a structure fire call at the golf course and arrived to find the southeast side of the clubhouse fully engulfed in flames, with fire protruding through the roof. The extreme cold weather made it even more challenging for the firefighters, with frozen hoses, couplings, and pumps hindering their efforts to control the fire.
Despite the difficulties caused by the freezing temperatures, firefighters worked tirelessly to combat the blaze and prevent it from spreading further. The water supply was also affected by the extreme cold, causing issues with frozen pump ports and lines. Five tankers were required to shuttle in water to fight the fire.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire. Strathcona fire crews and Alberta RCMP officers remained at the scene to ensure the fire was fully extinguished and to conduct further investigations.
The Northern Bear Golf Course, a Jack Nicklaus signature golf course, opened in 2002 and is located approximately 40 kilometers southeast of Edmonton.
