LOS ANGELES, Feb. 14, 2025 — Netflix surprised fans of “Bridgerton” with a special Valentine’s Day gift, revealing a first look at the highly anticipated Season 4 of the hit series. The streaming giant unveiled a collection of images and a behind-the-scenes video featuring early footage from the new episodes, which are currently in production.
This season brings a new dynamic, featuring Luke Thompson as Benedict Bridgerton and Yerin Ha as his love interest, Sophie Baek. The storyline shifts focus to the bohemian second son Benedict, who, although surrounded by happily married brothers, is hesitant to settle down until he meets the captivating Lady in Silver at his mother’s masquerade ball.
During the “Season of Love” event on Friday, showrunner Jess Brownell confirmed that this season is the most faithful adaptation of a Julia Quinn novel thus far. The season is based on Quinn’s third book, “An Offer From A Gentleman,” and will include key scenes such as the iconic masquerade ball, which Brownell noted will largely compose the premiere episode.
Benedict’s romance with the lower-class Sophie highlights the series’ exploration of Regency-era class politics, a theme that has become more pronounced in this installment. “Expect to see a deeper dive into the upstairs-downstairs dynamics of society, especially given Sophie’s background compared to Benedict’s,” Brownell said.
Fans can also look forward to seeing familiar faces return, as Season 4 will feature previous leads — including Anthony Bridgerton, played by Jonathan Bailey, and Colin Bridgerton, portrayed by Luke Newton, who will now navigate parenthood.
The ensemble cast for the new season includes notable relationships and character dynamics as love interests, newlyweds, and family members come to the forefront. In total, this season will consist of eight episodes, although a premiere date has yet to be announced.
Luke Thompson expressed excitement about portraying Benedict’s journey, referencing the show’s enchanting narrative as reminiscent of classic fairy tales. “The scripts that Jess and her team have come up with are dynamite. They weave the romance and reality of life beautifully,” Thompson remarked.
Yerin Ha echoed similar sentiments about her character’s complexities. “Sophie faces numerous obstacles, whether it’s around social status or her feelings for Benedict. It’s a challenging yet rewarding role,” Ha said.
The production is taking place in London, utilizing newly constructed sets that replicate the Georgian and Regency architecture seen throughout the series. This development marks an expansive growth in the show’s production scale, allowing for a more immersive viewing experience.
Brownell, alongside executive producers Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers, Tom Verica, and Chris Van Dusen, aims to blend the beloved elements of the series with fresh narrative arcs that resonate with the audience. The intertwining of romance and social realities promises to enhance the emotional depth that fans have come to expect.
As anticipation for “Bridgerton” Season 4 builds, fans will have to await further announcements for a release date and more sneak peeks into the lavish world of high society depicted in Quinn’s novels.
