Actors Who Started Careers Later In Life

HOLLYWOOD, Calif. — Hollywood is often viewed as a realm where youth prevails, but several actors have demonstrated that talent can shine at any age. Their paths to prominence have been long and challenging. Here are five actors who achieved success later in life.

Judi Dench, previously a star in British theatre, began her film career at 60. She debuted as Agent M in the 1995 James Bond film, “GoldenEye.” Dench has since become a Hollywood icon, earning seven Oscar nominations and winning an Academy Award in 1999 for her role in “Shakespeare in Love.”

French actress Emmanuelle Riva gained worldwide acclaim with her role in the 2012 film “Amour,” directed by Michael Haneke. At age 85, she became the oldest actor nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress. Though she did not win, her remarkable contribution to cinema was widely recognized.

Kathryn Joosten initially worked as a nurse before discovering her passion for acting at 42. She made a name for herself in Hollywood and, by 72, had appeared in over 130 roles. Joosten received two Emmy Awards for her performances, demonstrating her skill and perseverance.

Mexican actor Ricardo Montalbán faced many challenges before landing his breakthrough role in the 1970s series “Fantasy Island.” However, it was at 62 that he gained iconic status for portraying the villain Khan in “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.” This role remains one of the most memorable in his career.

Margo Martindale spent years in supporting roles before gaining widespread recognition at 60 with her performance in the series “Justified.” Critics celebrated her talent, and she also voiced a version of herself in the animated series “BoJack Horseman,” further solidifying her career in entertainment.

These actors illustrate that it is never too late to pursue dreams, proving that age is just a number in the quest for success in Hollywood.
