The Flash Vertical Velocity Coaster Six Flags Adventure

JACKSON, N.J. — Six Flags Great Adventure is set to open its latest thrill ride, The Flash: Vertical Velocity, as the park kicks off its 51st season on Saturday, March 29, 2025. This highly anticipated super boomerang coaster promises an exhilarating experience, launching riders in both forward and backward directions.

Season pass holders will have exclusive access to reserve rides during the first two weekends, March 29-30 and April 5-6. The park’s website outlines the details of this limited-time offer, allowing dedicated fans a head start on experiencing the new attraction.

The Flash: Vertical Velocity features a towering height of 172 feet, complemented by a thrilling 180-degree twisted drop and a Zero-G roll. It can propel riders to speeds of up to 60 mph, momentarily simulating micro-gravity as the ride operates nearly 100 feet above the ground.

This coaster marks a historic development as it is the first of its kind in North America and only the second boomerang coaster globally. Originally slated to open earlier, delays in construction extended the timeline for this unique ride, according to park officials.

This season at Great Adventure will also see the introduction of other changes, including the removal of five rides to accommodate new attractions being added in the coming years as part of a $1 billion investment in the park. Among these, Green Lantern, Twister, Parachutes, and the Sky Way have all been phased out.

In addition to the new coaster, visitors can look forward to the park’s popular annual events roster for 2025, including Oktoberfest, Fright Fest, and Holiday in the Park, along with a fresh summer celebration called Summerbration. Brian Bacica, park president, expressed enthusiasm for the season, stating, “Our 2025 events lineup is packed with excitement and festive celebrations. We’re especially excited to debut The Flash: Vertical Velocity, a groundbreaking new ride that will elevate family thrills at Great Adventure.”

Ryan Eldredge, regional manager of public relations for Six Flags, shared insight into the ride’s exhilarating design, noting that it incorporates a launch system that allows for more dynamic speed and movement compared to traditional lift systems. He conveyed the thrill of the experience, stating, “We’re going to get a lot of air time.”

Viewers are encouraged to check out pre-opening footage of The Flash to witness the excitement in action. Additionally, another new roller coaster is on the horizon for 2026, continuing to enhance the park’s reputation as a premier destination for thrills and family entertainment.
