Florida State Linebacker Ethan Pritchard Released from Hospital After Shooting

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Ethan Pritchard, a freshman linebacker for Florida State University, was released from the hospital on Thursday, nearly six weeks after being shot in the back of the head.
Florida State announced that Pritchard is alert, responsive, and able to communicate as he moves to Brooks Rehabilitation in Jacksonville for the next phase of his recovery. Pritchard was injured on August 31 while driving his aunt home in Havana, Florida, about 16 miles from Tallahassee.
In a statement, the university expressed gratitude for the support Pritchard has received. “We are thankful for the efforts, thoughts and prayers of so many people and ask that you continue to support Ethan and his family as this process continues,” the statement said.
A video posted by FSU quarterback Tommy Castellanos showed teammates cheering for Pritchard as he was wheeled out of the hospital. This marks a significant milestone in Pritchard’s recovery journey.
His father, Earl Pritchard, shared his gratitude as well. “I am so thankful for everyone who has prayed for my son,” said Earl Pritchard. “There have been a lot of ups and downs over these last 39 days, and it is remarkable that Ethan and I were able to leave the hospital together today.”
Earl also thanked Florida State coach Mike Norvell for his daily check-ins and the presence of the team during this difficult time. “I can’t fully express how much those moments have meant to me and Ethan,” he said.
Ethan Pritchard was shot in a case of mistaken identity, as four suspects were arrested last month. The attackers targeted Pritchard due to the model of his car. Officials are still pursuing justice in the case, with authorities stating that Pritchard was not the intended victim.
“Ethan has a long journey ahead of him, but I know he will continue to fight with the full support of our FSU and Seminole County families,” Earl Pritchard said.
