Flyers Ready to Face Blues in Hockey Fights Cancer Game
Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia Flyers will host the St. Louis Blues on Thursday, November 20, as part of their annual Hockey Fights Cancer Game presented by Toyota. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m. EST at Xfinity Mobile Arena, with broadcasting on NBCSP.
This is the second meeting between the Flyers and Blues in less than a week, after the Flyers secured a thrilling 6-5 shootout victory in St. Louis last Friday. In that game, the Flyers overcame several deficits, with standout performances from Owen Tippett, Trevor Zegras, and Christian Dvorak.
The Flyers entered the match-up with a record of 9-6-3, coming off a brief rest period following a disappointing 5-1 loss to the Dallas Stars. The Blues, currently at 6-9-5, lost their last game in overtime to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Much attention will be focused on the Flyers’ need for a strong start. Slow beginnings have plagued the team in recent outings, and they aim to avoid chasing the game as they did against the Blues last week.
Defensively, the Flyers have shown significant improvement this season, boasting a solid penalty kill that ranks second in the NHL. However, they will need to reinforce their defensive structure after allowing ten goals in their last two games, a troubling trend going into Thursday’s match.
Offensively, the Flyers have struggled to generate consistent scoring, particularly at even strength. Their performance at 5-on-5 has been subpar, with only 25 goals ranking last in the league. The team looks to leverage their recent rest and refinements to spark their offense.
In support of the fight against cancer, the Flyers will wear special lavender jerseys during warm-ups, and fans will receive “I Fight For” rally towels. All proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit Flyers Charities.
This year’s Hockey Fights Cancer Game marks a chance for the Flyers to not only relay their support for cancer research but also to recognize individuals affected by the disease within their community.
As the Flyers prepare for this important matchup, they hope to secure another win, boost morale, and continue their efforts to raise awareness for a critical cause.
