Foiled Attack: Jerusalem Police Arrest Four Teens for Planting Pipe Bombs at Light Rail Station
Jerusalem District Police, in collaboration with Israeli security personnel, have apprehended four teenagers from East Jerusalem, aged between 15 and 16, who were involved in manufacturing and planting multiple pipe bombs beneath a light rail station in the city.
The investigation into these suspects began as part of a wider inquiry into incidents of violence, including the hurling of Molotov cocktails and stones at police officers and light rail vehicles.
Through their probe, law enforcement officials discovered that the four individuals had collectively planned, assembled, and positioned the explosives under the station, even recording the process.
It was revealed that one of the suspects hurled an explosive device at the Jerusalem light rail, while the others pelted stones at the rail before fleeing the scene when officers were alerted to the commotion.
Initially mistaken for gunfire, it was later determined that an improvised explosive device was the cause of the disturbance, detonating as it made contact with the light rail.
Further revelations from the inquiry unveiled another instance where one of the suspects placed a bomb under the rail upon its arrival but evaded capture when the device failed to explode and fled.
In both episodes, there were no reported injuries to passengers or bystanders, with only minor damage sustained by the light rail system.
Additionally, it surfaced that some of the detained teenagers were implicated in various other rock-throwing incidents targeting security forces in recent months.
Following intensive questioning, the suspects had their detainment extended by the Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court as the police compiled a solid case against them, subsequently filing charges.
