Ford Recalls 272,817 Vehicles Over Battery Failure Risks
DETROIT, Mich. — Ford Motor Co. is recalling 272,817 vehicles in the United States due to concerns over potential battery failure, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced Thursday.
The recall affects certain 2021-2023 Ford Bronco Sport and 2022-2023 Maverick models. According to the NHTSA, the 12-volt battery in these vehicles may degrade and suddenly fail, leading to a loss of electrical accessories, including hazard lights, or a loss of drive power. Such failures could increase the risk of a crash.
“Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the 12-volt battery free of charge,” the NHTSA stated. Owners of affected vehicles are encouraged to contact their local Ford dealership to schedule an inspection.
This recall highlights ongoing challenges in the automotive industry as manufacturers grapple with component reliability issues. Ford has not yet reported any accidents or injuries related to the battery failures.
Consumers can check whether their vehicle is affected by visiting the NHTSA’s recall website and entering their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).
