Former ‘Full House’ Stars Reflect on Costar’s Family-Like Role

Los Angeles, CA – Former child stars of the beloved sitcom “Full House,” Andrea Barber and Jodie Sweetin shared their thoughts on their co-star John Stamos during a recent episode of their podcast. The episode, released on April 25, featured the duo playing a game of “Would You Rather?” when they were asked whether they would prefer to marry Joey Gladstone or Jess Katsopolis.
Both actors concluded that Joey, played by Dave Coulier, would be the better choice, primarily due to his humorous nature. Barber, 48, noted, “Having someone that makes me laugh is important.” Sweetin, 43, echoed this sentiment, adding that choosing between the two was a strange situation. “I’m like, I don’t know that it’s because it’s like they’re family and it’s weird,” she said.
The conversation took a turn when Barber expressed discomfort over the frequent questions they receive in interviews about their past crushes on their male co-stars. “When people ask us in media interviews, they’re like, ‘Did you ever have a crush on John Stamos?’ No, that is a gross question,” Barber remarked. The actresses clarified that they see Stamos and the rest of the male cast as family figures rather than romantic interests.
Sweetin described the actors as more than just older brothers, saying, “They’re like my uncles.” Barber added, “There’s nothing remotely attractive about this.” Throughout their discussions, both stars emphasized their close bond with the cast, which originally aired from 1987 to 1995 and included Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, among others.
The cast has remained tightly-knit even after the show ended. Stamos reflected on the importance of their late co-star Bob Saget, stating, “Bob was the one who kept us all together; he was the glue. It still hurts. He was just plucked out of our lives.” Saget tragically passed away in January 2022, with a report revealing severe head trauma as the cause.
Following the original series, the cast, minus the Olsen twins, reprised their roles in the Netflix sequel “Fuller House,” which aired from 2016 to 2020.
