Former NFL Player Transitioning to Reality TV and Family Content Creation
KENNEWICK, Wash. – Former NFL player East is making waves with his debut on reality television, displaying his athletic prowess on a new show. Since marrying fellow contestant Johnson in 2016, he has become known beyond his sports accomplishments.
East played college football at Vanderbilt University from 2010 to 2014, serving primarily as the team’s long snapper after redshirting his freshman year. Though he signed with the Kansas City Chiefs as an undrafted free agent in 2015, his NFL journey was marked by multiple short stints with teams like the Seattle Seahawks, Oakland Raiders, and Los Angeles Rams, totaling only three professional games.
In March 2022, East announced his retirement from professional football. “I realized that the best decision for me is to retire from professional football,” he stated in a faux press conference, sharing that he consulted with family and mentors before taking this step.
Since stepping away from the sport, East and Johnson focused on their growing family, which includes three children born in October 2019, July 2021, and December 2023. East expressed a desire to shift his priorities, saying, “The time has come where there’s more important things in my life.”
The couple has transitioned into full-time content creators, sharing their journey on social media. They boast 1.7 million YouTube subscribers and are committed to creating family-friendly content. “We’re building out a platform where we can hopefully impact thousands of families,” East explained. Their content originally gained traction during their wedding planning, where they shared candid moments on YouTube.
“Our whole mission now is to help families become more connected and hopeful,” he added, reflecting on the positive feedback they’ve received from their audience. “This is my moment and I can parlay this into what I’m passionate about now.”
