Billy Monger Crash

Billy Monger, a former racing driver and television broadcaster, has been prohibited from driving for a period of 49 days following a crash in Surrey, according to Surrey Police reports. Monger, who is known by the nickname ‘Billy Whizz’ after the Beano comic character, collided with three parked vehicles as well as damaging a lamp-post and a garden wall during the incident, which took place in January this year.

Guildford Magistrates’ Court found the 25-year-old guilty of driving without due care and attention. The court heard that Monger was operating a black Toyota Supra on a 30mph road in Limpsfield when the crash occurred just before midnight on the 19th of January. The crash resulted in him hitting a Volkswagen Lupo, a Volkswagen Golf, and a Citroen C, as well as causing minor damage to adjacent property.

In addition to his driving ban, Monger has been ordered to pay fines and costs amounting to £2,694. Rick Scholey, the supervisor responsible for investigating the road traffic collision, stated, “Monger was not paying attention when he lost control of his car causing significant damage to the vehicles before hitting a hedge and a wall belonging to a nearby house.” Scholey further noted the potential for more serious consequences had there been pedestrians on the road at the time of the collision.

Monger, who lost both legs in a Formula 4 racing crash at Donington Park when he was 17, has since become a commentator for Formula 1 on Channel 4. He has also been celebrated for his charitable efforts, such as raising over £3 million for Comic Relief in 2021 by walking, cycling, and kayaking across England. Later this month, Monger will participate in the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii, where he aims to set a record as the fastest double amputee to complete the annual event.
