Former 'that '70s Show' Star Danny Masterson Transferred To Corcoran State Prison

Danny Masterson, known for his role in the popular sitcom ‘That ’70s Show,’ has been transferred to Corcoran State Prison in Central California, according to reports by USA TODAY. This comes after a state judge denied him bail while awaiting the outcome of his appeal for convictions of rape in 2003. Corcoran State Prison, one of the ten institutions designated for the most dangerous male offenders in the state, is now his new place of residence.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Charlaine Olmedo, who denied Masterson’s bail, stated in her order that she considered him a flight risk based on evidence presented during the trial. The judge also mentioned that Masterson’s recent divorce from Bijou Phillips and lack of meaningful ties to the community further increased concerns about his likelihood to flee. Masterson had previously requested joint custody of their daughter during legal proceedings.

Masterson was previously serving his sentence at North Kern State Prison before being moved to Corcoran State Prison. He was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison for two counts of rape in September 2023, and Judge Olmedo specified that he would be eligible for parole in 2042 if he maintains good behavior.

Corcoran State Prison is a maximum-security facility with over 3,700 inmates, including notorious criminals such as Charles Manson. It currently houses 42 death row inmates and has a protective housing unit for prisoners who require extra security measures. The prison’s capacity is stretched due to overcrowding.

Masterson’s legal troubles are not limited to the criminal case. He, along with the Church of Scientology, is also facing a civil harassment lawsuit filed by some of the victims in his criminal trial. The case is scheduled to go to trial in September 2025 and could potentially involve RICO claims.
