Former Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley has landed the full-time managerial position at Watford Football Club after showcasing his leadership abilities during his stint as interim boss.

Cleverley, who retired from playing last summer due to injury, has quickly ascended to the role of head coach at the Championship side.

The 34-year-old oversaw a challenging run of fixtures against some of the top teams in the Championship, guiding Watford to five draws and a win in his seven-match interim spell.

Having made 182 appearances for Watford, Cleverley brings a wealth of experience and a deep connection to the club where he also served as club captain.

Watford, currently sitting 15th in the Championship, made the decision to appoint Cleverley as the permanent manager following the departure of Valerien Ismael in March.

With just two matches left in the season against Hull and Middlesbrough, Cleverley is already looking ahead to the upcoming 2024/25 season and aiming to strengthen the team for a promotion challenge.

Cleverley expressed confidence in the squad’s ability to compete at a higher level, emphasizing the need for defensive solidity along with attacking prowess to mount a promotion bid.
