Fortnite Players Frustrated Amid Login Issues and Server Outages

LOS ANGELES, CA — Fortnite players faced login problems and server outages Thursday morning, as complaints surged following a reported update that has left many unable to access the game.
The issues began around 3 p.m. Wednesday and escalated through the night, with Downdetector showing the number of players experiencing login issues trended upward from fewer than 50 to over 355 by 9 a.m. Thursday. The outages reportedly peaked at 419 before slightly declining to 394 by noon.
Failing to connect to the game, users have taken to social media platforms such as X, formerly Twitter, expressing their frustration. “I uninstalled and reinstalled it and it’s still saying ‘update needed, but we can’t get to it right now,’” one Xbox player reported.
Many players speculated that the outages were related to high server loads since the latest game update. A notable 31% of players reported issues with server connections, while 58% were unable to connect at all. Only 12% indicated their gameplay had been affected, suggesting the majority were facing critical login challenges.
“It’s been HOURS and still no news on why Fortnite is not updating on Xbox?? Can you at least make a statement that you are trying to fix it?” another frustrated Xbox user wrote. The issue seems to particularly affect Xbox players, who comprise a large segment of the Fortnite community.
Epic Games has acknowledged the server issues but has not provided a detailed timeline for when services will stabilize. In the meantime, the Fortnite Status page offers potential solutions which vary by console. Players reported glitches occurring while switching weapons during battle royale matches, further compounding the frustration.
The ongoing problems have sparked jokes and memes on social media, with some players humorously suggesting they must find something “productive” to do while waiting for the game to resolve its issues. “Does this count as quality time with the family?” joked one player.
As players continue to voice concerns, Epic Games has not given an official statement about the cause or expected resolution of the outages. Many in the gaming community are hopeful for prompt updates and a restoration of normal service levels.
