Rupert Murdoch‘s media company, Fox Corporation, has officially launched its ad-supported streaming service, Tubi, in the UK market. The platform aims to compete with popular streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, and others in the region.

With over 20,000 films and TV episodes available on-demand, Tubi offers a wide range of content from major studios including Disney, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, and Sony Pictures Entertainment. In addition, Tubi features its own original content, such as the reality series House of Heat and popular films like the Twilight series and Candyman.

Anjali Sud, the CEO of Tubi, expressed excitement about bringing their free streaming service formula to UK audiences. Tubi aims to cater to UK fans by offering a diverse range of content that resonates with them.

Fox Corporation claims Tubi tied with Disney+ in total viewing time in the US, showcasing the platform’s growing popularity. The UK launch includes blockbuster films like Olympus Has Fallen and Happy Gilmore, alongside popular TV shows like Great British Menu and Foolproof Cooking.

Amidst the competitive streaming landscape, companies like Netflix and Disney have been investing heavily in original content to attract subscribers. As part of this strategy, Netflix will stream WWE wrestling, and Disney plans to offer live sports from its ESPN network.

Tubi differentiates itself with a 100% free, ad-supported model that features a low ad load. As streaming services seek ways to increase subscriptions, Tubi’s approach offers an alternative for viewers looking for cost-effective entertainment options.

Earlier this year, Murdoch’s TalkTV transitioned to an online-only format, reflecting the evolving media landscape. Tubi’s expansion into the UK signals Fox Corporation’s commitment to capturing a share of the global streaming market.
